This is the first translation into English of Eka Ranaraginichi Hakikat, the autobiography of Comrade Parvatibai Bhor. Married off at the age of 9 and having studied only up to Class three, Parvatibai struggled to break the chains of domestic drudgery, which was the general lot of women at that time. Intensely eager to work in the outside world, she was attracted to the ‘lal bawta wallahs’ and went on to not only become a Communist Party worker but also play an enviable role in many memorable movements including the iconic Bitiya Mill strike of 1939 by women workers in Mumbai.
